What are some good airlines for budget travel around Southeast Asia? Generally I book with AirAsia simply because I'm familiar with them and I've generally had positive experiences. But every now and then, there seem to be price hikes and a trip from Jakarta to Bali or KL to Bangkok can be pretty expensive.

Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines are good but they're not quite budget and from what I've seen, they tend to have slightly higher prices than AirAsia. I've had a look at some others such as Lion Air and Jetstar, but some of the reviews can be pretty harsh 🤣

Any suggestions for low-cost budget airlines operating the SE Asia region that has a good service and safety record?

I’ve tried several budget airlines from Air Asia, Jetstar, Scoot, Tiger Airways & Lion Air. Generally I don’t have any problem with all of them except Lion Air.

My flights with Lion Air were rarely on time, don’t know why they’re almost always late. Once I had a 6 hour delay 🙈 and they’ve had several accidents also so maybe this is not a recommended airlines. I don’t know if they’re getting better now because it’s been a long time since my last flight with them.

The other airlines are quite ok, had some delay with the flights also but the delay was still acceptable (around 1 hour or so).

If I have to choose the best one, I’ll probably go with Air Asia. If I remember correctly my flights with them were always smooth & pleasant.

@cyntanaka Thanks for the info. Yep, will probably stick with AirAsia as a default airline of choice for the time being. It's useful to know of other options, particularly when there's a price fluctuation every now and then. But then, it could be that all regional airlines are affected when this happens. Anyway, will consider some of those other airlines you've mentioned. Now and again, there's a good deal on offer. Thanks!
